Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Rosy Wolfsnail Cannibalism

   The four Euglandina pictured below were found in a small 3 x 3 foot area in the roadside swale on the west side of US-1 about 3.2 miles northwest of International Golf Parkway, St. Johns County, Florida on 1/19/2020. When found, three of the four were in the process of dispersing from the area (see bottom image below). It was apparent that the four snails had been part of a mating aggregation - either a mating ball of four specimens or two mating pairs. When examined closer, it was determined that one of the four (pictured on the right in the image below) had subsequently been eaten during the assembly.
