Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Rosy Wolfsnail Cannibalism

The pair pictured below were found together partially obscured by vegetation in the roadside swale and were believed to represent a mating pair. However, further investigation revealed that the animal in the smaller of the two was gone and the larger specimen (74 mm.) appeared to be experiencing difficulty in fully retracting into its shell. It seems very likely that larger specimen had just finished a big meal and the animal of the colorful smaller specimen was it.
