Gyroscala rupicola (Kurtz, 1860)

Crawling in wet sand at the base of granite boulder of the south St. Johns River Jetty, Mayport Naval Station Beach, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida 5/31/2008 (14.6 mm.). While empty or crabbed shells of this species are well represented in the wrack line in northeast Florida, living specimens are rarely found.
