| This taxon was given full species rank, distinct from C. jaspideus Gmelin, 1791, by Vink (1991) but placed in synonymy with that taxon by Costa (1994). Turgeon, Quinn, et al. (1998) favored Vink’s interpretation over that of Costa. |
