Scanning Electron Micrograph

Rissoella sp. aff. caribaea Rehder, 1943 cf. Caribbean Risso

Taken from drift trapped in monofilament tangle, just S. of south jetty, St. Augustine Beach, St. Johns County, Florida by H. G. Lee on 5/15/93 (0.95mm.). Nucleus smaller, profile less conical, periphery of whorls more anterior, sutures less impressed, umbilical keel lacking vs. typical R. c. Another apparently un-named congener occurs in Bermuda and Bonaire (HL). Typical R. c. occurs in Monroe Co., Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, E. Mexico, Belize, Cayman Is., and Bonaire (HL), which enlarges known range vs. Abbott (1974): “Florida Keys to Puerto Rico.”

Scanning electron micrograph performed under the auspices of the Dept. of Invertebrates of the United States National Museum with the excellent technical assistance of Ms. Yolanda Villacampa.
