Below is a scan of the original description of Pyrula spirata
Lamarck (1816: 8; pl. 433, fig. 3) edited only for juxtaposition. The
"description" is comprised of just two figures and the name, but it is
the first available binomen for the Pear Whelk thus its valid scientific
name. The illustration was drawn and engraved by Jacques-Eustache de
Sève (ca.1790-1830).
