Mesomphix globosus (MacMillan, 1940) Globose Button

Mesomphix vulgatus H. B. Baker, 1933 Common Button

    In each of the three views the specimen on the left is Mesomphix globosus (MacMillan, 1940), major diameter 18.0 mm. and M. vulgatus H. B. Baker, 1933, major diameter 20.2 mm, is on the right. Each has 4.9 whorls. Both were taken at alive at "Anguispira Rock" from leaf litter at bases of three limestone escarpments running NW to SE.  37.44478N - 37.44486N X 085.3124W - 085.3136W, Nelson Co., KY by one or two of the expeditioners, H. Lee, L. Schroeder, R. Smotherman, and E. Cavin, on 17 May, 2008. The shell color and tightness of coil help distinguish the two species. See Hubricht, L., 1962. Mesomphix vulgatus and its  allies.
