Busycotypus canaliculatus (Linnaeus, 1758) In Situ |
Only on very rare occasions will an actual Busycotypus canaliculatus specimen be visible on the packed sand beaches of northeast Florida. Instead, the specimen will invariably be totally buried in the sand presenting the somewhat cryptic shape as shown below. The illustrated specimen, about 65-70 mm. in length, was photographed at Mayport Naval Station beach in Duval County on 9/8/2006 and is of typical size for specimens found on northeast Florida beaches. |
