Rare Massing Of Daedalochila auriculata (Say, 1818) Ocala Liptooth - 2020 |

The unusual
massing of some 47 live Daedalochila auriculata on the
Spartan corner of Evergreen Avenue and the entrance road to the NUStar
Energy port facility during September-October, 2019 was believed to
be a one time event. A logical explanation for this assembly of
snails was never forthcoming.
Following the 2019 event, the Evergreen Avenue Daedalochila population was periodically monitored to include the snail massing site. Nothing unusual was observed until August 31, 2020 when Daedalochila auriculata once again began massing on the same corner - almost exactly one year after the 2019 massing event began. During the 2020 event (8/31 - 11/1/2020) 110 live snails were involved, more than doubling the 2019 total. |
