Cerion casablancae Bartsch, 1920 X Cerion incanum (A. Binney, 1851) Hybrids

In 1915, 55 Cerion cassablancae from the Bahamas were introduced to Bahia Honda Key, Monroe County, Florida Keys by Dr. Paul Bartsch. The snails thrived and the colony grew until about 1928 when it began to hybridize with the unrelated native Cerion incanum..Without detailed genetic analyses it cannot be confirmed that all the specimens illustrated below are in fact hybrids as there are areas of Bahia Honda Key that are populated by pure Cerion incanum. However, according to Woodruff and Gould (1987), there are no pure Cerion casablancae left on Bahia Honda.
