Squirrel Treefrog [Hyla squirella]

These juvenile (about 15 mm.) green colored tree frogs were photographed during daylight hours while sitting on elephant ear (Genus Colocasia) plants in eastern Duval County on 10/22/2004. Their full grown brethren are more commonly encountered in a rural setting during the hours of darkness as they patiently seek their next insect meal. During bright sunny days the juveniles are commonly found on the undersides of large leaves produced by plants such as the aforementioned elephant ear or palmettos. During certain times of the year can be quite common with multiple specimens on each leaf.
