Carolinapecten / Chesapecten species Fossil (extinct)

Amelia Island, Nassau County, Florida, 2020. Collected and photographed by Jim Robinson. Like the Ecphora illustrated on the previous page, the pecten shells are made of calcite which may explain why they show up on the beach while other fossil species are lacking. The aragonitic taxa were likely not preserved in the unit that is the source of the Ecphora and pecten shells.
