Vermont Vertigo Species (Vertigo elatior | Vertigo bollesiana)

In Bennington Co., VT V. elatior is typical of low wet areas, and V. bollesiana is more likely encountered in upland woods. Shells of the latter characteristically have two columellar folds, but rare individuals may lack the basal one or, like the figured shell, may have a third fold in between. Shells are 1.9 and 1.7 mm respectively.
