Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Attacking Mesodon thyroidus (Say, 1817) |
Two freshly incarcerated Euglandina rosea were placed side by side on a concrete patio. A single Mesodon thyroidus (collected elsewhere) was then placed in proximity to the pair. One of the Euglandina immediately went on the offensive and attacked the Mesodon (see top two images below). When the death of the Mesodon appeared imminent, it was hastily removed to safety. The attacking Euglandina appeared frustrated at the loss of an easy meal and immediately attacked the second Euglandina (bottom image). |
