Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Rosy Wolfsnail - Very Large Specimen

Deceased in recently mowed vegetation with animal intact, roadside swale on the east side of US-1 about 3.4  miles northwest of International Golf Parkway, St. Johns County, Florida, 9/17/2021 (79.4 mm.). Although regularly mowed by contract employees, during the summer months the vegetation in the swale grows quickly thus providing perfect habitat for the resident Euglandina. It appears likely the illustrated specimen sustained a fatal injury by being struck by the blade of the large mower used when the swale was mowed on 9/15-16/2021. Venomous snakes also occasionally fall prey to the mowers.
