Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Variation

Pictured below are nine young adult specimens collected from a small area near the Interstate 295 overpass spanning St. Johns Bluff Road, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida between January and March, 2020. Their diet likely consisted of Polygyra cereolus (Mühlfeld, 1816) Southern Flatcoil and the exotic snail Bulimulus sporadicus (d’Orbigny, 1835) which are both common in the area. The presence of a reliable food source is obviously responsible for the unusually large Euglandina population at this site while other nearby locations have none.
