Busycon carica (Gmelin, 1791) Mating Pair

    This pair (female on the left) were found copulating while completely buried in the sand at Mayport Naval Station Beach, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on 5/17/2011. Upon being extracted from the substrate the male quickly retracted its sexual organ. The female measures about 190 mm.
