Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Feeding On Deroceras laeve (Müller, 1774) [Meadow Slug] |
During an early morning walk in southeastern Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on 5/1/2010 a juvenile Euglandina (about 25 mm. in length) was observed pursuing, capturing, and subsequently swallowing alive a Deroceras laeve (Müller, 1774) [Meadow Slug]. Although this reporter had long suspected that Euglandina fed on the very common small slugs, this is the fist instance that the actual event was observed. |
