Rissoina cerithiiformis Tryon, 1887 (+ Rissoina miltozona Tomlin, 1915)

Rissoina cerithiiformis Tryon, 1887

Sleurs (1993) considers Rissoina miltozona Tomlin, 1915 a junior synonym of R. cerithiiformis Tryon, 1887. The type of the monotypic (sub)genus Apataxia Laseron, 1956, A. erecta Laseron, 1956, is also a synonym. (H.  G.  Lee)

Okutani (2000) identified this species as Rissoina miltozona, but Higo et al. (1999) claimed Rissoina balteata Pease, 1869 was the earliest name for this species. The fact that they never found the type (Higo et al., 2001) lends some support to the argument of Sleurs (1993) that this Pease species is (1) not recognizable and (2) not likely the species under consideration since two years earlier he named R. costulata Pease, 1867, a clear synonym R. miltozona Tomlin, 1915 and R. cerithiiformis Tryon, 1887 as well as a homonym of R. costulata Dunker, 1859 and thus unavailable.
