Pomacea diffusa Egg Clutches On Culvert Near The Post Office

Because that a good portion of the ditch habitat colonized by the Pomacea diffusa is regularly manicured by work crews, most of the year the snails have little in the way of suitable natural vegetation on which to deposit their egg clutches. Therefore they have taken advantage of four large metal culverts and adjacent concrete structures, not to mention discarded shopping carts as shown on the previous page, to provide a suitable means to propagate the species. A small portion of one of the large metal culverts is show below and was photographed on 7/1/2009 at the height of the egg laying period.
