Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Rosy Wolfsnail In Situ

Euglandina rosea (Férussac, 1821) Rosy Wolfsnail In Situ

Alive partially buried in mud, Twelve Mile Swamp on the west side of US-1 adjacent to the roadside swale, about 3.2  miles northwest of International Golf Parkway, St. Johns County, Florida 2/4/2021 (42 mm.). It has long been theorized that at least some of the Euglandina at this location spend a portion of their time buried in the substrate. A similarly partially buried specimen was found at this locality on 2/3/2021. Many specimens found in vegetation in the swale show signs of having been buried (coated by dried mud).
