Neolepton species aff. N. sulcatulum (Jeffreys, 1859) |
These three fossil specimens, all measuring ~ 0.85 mm in length, were collected at SMR Aggregates Phase 10, a sand and shell pit mine in NE Sarasota Co., FL. This operation has exposed the Lower Pinecrest beds of the Upper Tamiami Formation (~ 3 Ma). Micromollusks are abundant and diverse. Although gastropods predominate, there are plenty of little white clams (LWC's), some of which, like this taxon, are unfamiliar to all but a few of us. Identification provided by Serge Gofas and Carmen Salas. |
