Uca minax Red-jointed Fiddler Crab |
| This male Red-jointed Fiddler Crab was photographed at Vilano Beach (St. Augustine Inlet), St. Johns County, Florida on 6/13/2007 where it was but one of many thousands that were seen roaming a sandy area during a low tide. While the massive hoards wasted little time retreating at the approach of the photographer, the specimen illustrated below bravely stood his ground. The Red-jointed Fiddler Crab is the largest of the three common fiddler crab species found in the sheltered backwaters of northeast Florida. |
