Lower Pinecrest beds, Upper Tamiami Formation, Sarasota County, Florida (bottom image - 2.99 mm.). SEMs produced in collaboration with Dr. Ann Heatherington, Dept. Geological Sciences, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. This species was first reported from the Recent and ranges throughout the Carolinian Subprovince to Panama, Cuba, and the Bahamas. The more inflated C. adamsi (P. Fischer, 1857) is similarly large and spirally corded but seems limited to the Recent. Images of two Sanibel specimens are posted at <https://catalog.shellmuseum.org/shells/southwest-florida-shells/cochliolepis-adamsii?family=family-tornidae>.
