Ramrod Key

Ramrod Key

These specimens represent the only form known from Ramrod Key. It has been identified at various times as L. f. crassus, mosieri (in the context of a possible prank) and lossmanicus. At least a dozen specimens exist, most inked "T.S. col. Ramrod Key 1907" or "T.S. col. RK 1907." Several specimens of a similar shell were seen recently on Big Torch Key. It is now identified as L. f. lossmanicus, extirpated from Ramrod Key long ago but possibly remaining on Big Torch Key. These specimens are from the John William "Bill" Crouch collection and had been purchased from Chris Grimshawe. (PP)
