Lewis (1972) designated a "lectotype" of D.
ridens - a specimen in the AMNH (Haines Coll.), and Emerson and Sage
(1990a, 1990d) correctly identified that shell with D. clathrata a
few years later. The latter authors mentioned D. robinsoni Petuch
but dismissed it as a mere form of D. clathrata (shorter spire and
siphonal canal). In our opinion D. ridens is actually D.
robinsoni, and the latter is specifically distinct from D.
clathrata. Emerson, W. K. and W. E. Sage, 1990a. Distorsio
ridens (Reeve, 1844): a synonym of Distorsio clathrata (Lamarck,
1816) Gastropoda: Personidae. The Nautilus 103(4): 131-135. |
