Patera appressa (Say, 1821) Flat Bladetooth

Flynn Creek Crater west of Antioch Church, Jackson County, Tennessee, 4/27/2021. Collected by Bob Winters.

A1 and A2: Patera appressa (Say, 1821); B1 and B2: Patera linguifera (Lamarck, 1822) Tongue Bladetooth. These specimens were among some thirty empty shells in roughly equal numbers collected in a 50 mē area. No evidence on intergradation was found. Despite being treated as a mere form of the former taxon by authors, it appears the Lamarckian taxon is a distinct morphospecies; this station is 200 km from its type locality, Knoxville.
