Florida Softshell Turtle [Apalone ferox]

This young specimen (about 100 mm. in length) was discovered along the shoreline of lake/retention pond in southeastern Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on 3/5/2006. The turtle was less than pleased to have been netted for inspection but was amenable to posing for a portrait. Florida Softshell Turtles are very common in local area water bodies but juvenile specimens are not usually seen.
