Viviparus georgianus (I. Lea, 1834) Family Portrait

    The 30 mm. adult specimen (pictured below, left) was collected  from a lake in far northwestern Duval County, Florida on 4/25/2007. When the animal was removed, the eight illustrated juvenile specimens were found inside. Members of the family Viviparidae brood their young internally and subsequently produce living young instead of laying eggs.
