Pomacea diffusa depositing egg clutch

    During the early afternoon of June 8, 2007 the 50 mm. specimen illustrated below was collected in the drainage ditch immediately adjacent to the SAM's Club. The specimen subsequently spent the next several hours riding around in this observers shirt pocket before being placed in a plastic scrub bucket in several inches of tap water. With the onset of dusk (about 8:30 PM) the specimen was observed crawling up the sides of the bucket apparently searching for a suitable location to deposit her eggs. By 10:22 PM the snail was in the final stages of depositing the egg clutch (see below). A couple of dozen loose eggs were also found floating in the bottom of the bucket.  (Go to next page - Page Seven)
