Pomacea paludosa (Say, 1829) Florida Applesnail Depositing Eggs

    As Pomacea paludosa apparently only deposits egg clutches at night, it is difficult to observe this activity let alone obtain photographs. The female shown below was found along the shoreline of a retention pond (bottom image) at the U. S. Postal Service bulk mail center, 7415 commonwealth Avenue, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida on 5/14/2017. The snail was taken into captivity and at about 9 PM on 5/16/2017 the snail began depositing an egg clutch (image below, left). The image below on the right shows the completed egg clutch taken some ten hours later.
