From the roadside swale on the east side of US-1 about 3.2 miles northwest of International Golf Parkway, St. Johns County, Florida 2/23/2020. The bottom two images show the shells as found. The pair had obviously been buried in the muddy substrate for a long period of time and exhumed by recent maintenance of the roadside swale employing heavy equipment. Smaller specimens with thinner shells often don't emerge from the substrate intact. |
