Viviparus georgianus (I. Lea, 1834) Family Portrait

    The 33 mm. adult specimen pictured below was collected on 8/15/2008 in Town Creek (headwaters of Six Mile Creek) in western St. Johns County, Florida. When the animal was removed, nineteen juvenile specimens  were found inside (eighteen of which are illustrated below). Members of the family Viviparidae brood their young internally and subsequently produce living young instead of laying eggs.
