Atrina seminuda (Lamarck, 1819) Half-naked Penshell

The Raccoon pictured below was discovered trying to obtain what appeared to be an easy seafood dinner in the form of a beached probable Atrina seminuda. When the Raccoon inserted its paw into the shell to extract the meat, the shell closed trapping its foot (image on the left). Through use of its remaining three feet, the Raccoon was finally able to extract its foot as well as its dinner (image on the right). The same scenario was repeated a second time with an additional shell.
