Cinctura hunteria (G. Perry, 1811) Eastern Banded Tulip

with Crepidula fornicata (Linnaeus, 1758)

    This 60 mm. Cinctura hunteria, with a burden of no less than five Crepidula fornicata (Linnaeus, 1758), was found beached at Little Talbot Island State Park, Duval Co., Florida on March 4th, 2004 following rough seas. Despite its amazing burden, the specimen was apparently able to survive and otherwise appeared to be in good health.  However, the Cinctura did exhibit some shell damage possibly as a result of the Crepidula (see third image below).
